How APS Scores are Calculated at UKZN

At the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), the calculation of the Academic Performance Score (APS) is a vital part of the admissions process. The APS is derived by summing up the performance levels across various subjects taken by a prospective student. These performance levels are graded from 1 to 7, with each level assigned a specific value. Detailed information on how each level is valued can be found in the reference table on page 17 of the UKZN admissions guide.

It is important to note that Life Orientation (LO) is excluded from the APS calculation at UKZN; no points are awarded for this subject. Additionally, Mathematics Paper 3 is not considered a full subject and thus does not contribute to the APS.
